About This Straight Bunny Amigurumi Pattern

This pattern creates two sizes of a straight bunny amigurumi β€” a small and a large version β€” worked mostly in single crochet in spiral rounds. It includes full round-by-round instructions for legs, body, head, ears, arms, tail and a simple scarf in a contrasting colour. You will also find detailed embroidery guidance for the face and step-by-step assembly instructions to join the parts neatly.

Straight Bunny Amigurumi Pattern crochet pattern - detailed view of completed project

Designed for simple shaping with invisible decreases and plain single crochet, this pattern is ideal if you want a clean, modern toy. Photos and advice for stuffing, eye placement and finishing help you achieve professional-looking results.

Why You'll Love This Straight Bunny Amigurumi Pattern

I absolutely love this pattern because it combines simplicity with charm β€” the straight silhouette is minimal yet full of personality. I enjoy how quickly each small element comes together, letting you finish a complete toy in a few focused sessions. The instructions are written to be clear and reassuring, with photos to guide tricky steps like joining the legs and embroidering the face. It makes a perfect handmade gift and I love imagining the little stories people will give these bunnies.

Switch Things Up

I love how easily this pattern adapts to different looks; you can change the main colour to a pastel for a nursery toy or a bold shade for a modern decorative piece.

If you want a chunkier bunny, use a bulkier yarn and a larger hook β€” this will create a softer, cuddlier toy with fewer stitches to work through.

To make a tiny keychain bunny, switch to sport or DK weight yarn and a smaller hook; reduce rounds proportionally or simply use the small pattern to create a sweet miniature.

I often swap the scarf colour for a stripe or add little embroidered cheeks to change the expression and mood of the bunny instantly.

Try using safety eyes of different sizes or embroidered eyes for a child-safe toy; moving the eye placement a stitch or two can dramatically alter the bunny's personality.

For a posable version, insert thin craft wire into the arms and legs before finishing, or use pipe cleaners for a less permanent option that still gives some bend.

Add tiny accessories like a crocheted bow, a felt heart, or a miniature jacket to create themed bunnies for holidays or gifts.

I like to play with textures β€” use boucle yarn for a fluffy look, or cotton for clearly defined stitches and a more modern finish.

You can also mix yarns: a wool-blend body with an acrylic scarf gives a nice contrast in handle and appearance while keeping care instructions straightforward.

Finally, feel free to change the stitch used for the scarf or add an edging row to make the scarf wider, shorter or buttoned in different places to change how it sits around the bunny's neck.

Common Mistakes & How to Fix Them

βœ— Skipping the stitch marker when working in spiral rounds leads to losing the start of the round; always place a marker at the first stitch and move it each round. βœ— Not opening the magic ring tight enough can leave a central hole; pull the ring snugly and close the ring before continuing to avoid gaps. βœ— Overstuffing early in the body will distort shaping and make sewing difficult; stuff gradually and add more filling as you join rounds for a natural silhouette. βœ— Sewing parts without pinning causes misaligned limbs and ears; pin pieces in place, check symmetry, then stitch securely using a yarn needle.

Embroidering the mouth & the eye lashes :

Thread your embroidery floss / thread on a yarn needle. You will need 50 cm / 20 inches long thread to embroider the whole facial parts. Insert your needle from the open bottom of the head. Leave a 5 cm / 2" long tail dangling out. Bring your needle out from the hole numbered as 1. Insert the needle into hole numbered as 2 & come out from number 1. Go in & out number 1 & 2 three times to create the nose / vertical bar as shown in the photos. Then insert the needle into the holes numbered as 5 & bring it out from the hole numbered as 6. Insert the needle into the hole numbered as 7 and bring it out from the open bottom of the head. Make a couple of tight knots to secure the facial parts. Cut the excessive thread tails. All done :) Ready to sew head & body together.

Sewing head & body together :

In order to be able to sew head & body together nice & steady / wobble free; first put a little bit more stuffing inside the head. Start sewing the head and body together and stop half way to add as much stuffing as necessary without putting too much or too less. Then you are good to go. Finish sewing and then fasten off.

Ears Step Three :

Colour: Paper White / Make Two

Round 1 :

Magic ring & 5 sc into it [5 sts]

Round 13 :

Sc around [8 sts]

Info :

We now need to flatten the ear and to do that; crochet just one slip stitch. Cut a long enough yarn tail for sewing. Thread the yarn onto a yarn needle; insert the needle inside the next hole from inside out to bring the yarn tail out for sewing. Press & shape the ear with your fingers. No need to put any stuffing inside the ears.

Info :

Sew the ears in between the 3rd & 7th rounds; counting from the top / first round / 6 sc in the magic ring.

Arms Step Four :

Colour: Paper White / Make Two

Round 1 :

Magic ring & 6 sc into it [6 sts]

Round 2-16 :

Sc around (15 rounds in total) [6 sts]

Info :

No need to fill the arms with fibrefill.

Round 17 :

We will now flatten the arm; and to do that, simply push the top (open end) flat. We now have 3 stitches on each side. Just crochet 3 sc over the both sides of the flatten piece.

Info :

When you need to crochet over the both sides of a flatten piece, insert your hook under both sc sts you have on the both sides of the piece as you see in the photo below. Then carry on crocheting normal single crochet stitches. Cut a long enough yarn tail for sewing. I've sewn the arms in between the last two rounds of the body and I've used 4 holes to sew each arm to the body.

Scarf Step Six :

Colour: Washed Teal. Crocheting with 4.50mm hook.

Scarf Instructions :

Make a slip knot & crochet 50 chain stitches. Turn the back side of the chain where you will see horizontal stitches look like the runner stitches as you see in the photo below. Needle is to show you both horizontal stitch and the 4th st, and then half double crochet into the 4th horizontal stitch to create a button hole. Carry on crocheting half double crochet until the end of the chain. Cut a tiny yarn tail to sew the button on the edge of the scarf. I used a 1.50 cm plastic button, but you can use any button you have in your button jar. Wrap the scarf twice around the bunny's neck and button it up.

You can see bunny's tail from the side in the photo left above. All done now :) you have finished your baby bunny. Congratulations.

Info :

Cut a small yarn tail for fastening off. Set the first leg aside for now and make another leg.

Round 21 :

Assembling the large bunny :

Step 1: Sew head & body together. Step 2: Sew the ears on bunny's head in between the 3rd & 9th rounds. Step 3: Sew the arms on each side of the bunny in between the last two rounds on the body by using 5 holes. Step 4: Find the best place for the tail and sew it on the bottom of the bunny's body.

Assembly Instructions

  • Sew head to body by adding a little more stuffing inside the head, stitch evenly around the opening, pause to add stuffing as needed, then finish and fasten off.
  • Attach ears between the 3rd and 7th rounds (small) or between the 3rd and 9th rounds (large) and use pins to check placement before sewing.
  • Sew arms on either side of the body between the last two rounds; for the small bunny use 4 sewing holes per arm, for the large bunny use 5 holes per arm for a secure attachment.
  • Sew the tail onto the bottom of the bunny's body; add a little stuffing to the tail, bring the yarn tail through the body and secure with neat stitches.
  • Position the safety eyes before closing the head (small: between rounds 10-11 leaving 7 holes between eyes; large: between rounds 14-15 leaving 11 holes between eyes) and secure with backings.

Important Notes

  • πŸ’‘Use a magic ring to start each piece for a neat, hole-free centre when working in the round.
  • πŸ’‘Leave long yarn tails for sewing parts together to make assembly easier and neater.
  • πŸ’‘Work with consistent tension and consider using a hook one size smaller than the yarn label suggests for amigurumi to prevent stuffing showing.
  • πŸ’‘Use stitch markers when working spiral rounds to mark the beginning of each round and avoid counting mistakes.
  • πŸ’‘Stuff gradually while shaping and avoid overstuffing which can distort the toy's silhouette.

FAQs

What size will the finished piece be?

The finished small Bunny measures approximately 9" / 22 cm tall from feet to the tip of the ears and the large Bunny measures approximately 15" / 38 cm tall when using the recommended hooks and aran weight yarn.

Can I use different yarn weights for this pattern?

Yes, you can change yarn weight but it will alter the finished size; choose an appropriate hook for the yarn and expect a firmer texture with smaller hooks for amigurumi.

Do I need prior crochet experience for this pattern?

This pattern is rated Beginner Friendly, so basic knowledge of single crochet, increases and decreases is sufficient, and detailed photos help with assembly and embroidery.

How long does this project typically take to complete?

Most crocheters complete one Bunny over a weekend; expect about 5-7 hours to finish both small and large elements, though time will vary with experience and size chosen.
